13 very specific memories Irish people have of watching the Olympics

It’s that time of the

1. Seeing commentators and pundits that you only see once in a blue moon

2. And hearing the dulcet tones of Timmy McCarthy during the basketball

3. Stopping everything to watch the likes of Michael Carruth, Michelle Smith and Sonia O’Sullivan compete

Down tools, everyone!

4. And getting fierce ~emotional~ when you remember Katie Taylor winning gold in London

*silently weeps*

GO ON, KATIE.

5. Having Jimmy Magee articulate your joy better than you ever could

6. Seriously considering naming your firstborn “Sonia”

7. Getting momentarily invested in sports like equestrian and laser radial when it seems like an Irish person might do well

And giving ourselves a massive pat on the back because sure don’t we only have 4.5 million people living here and didn’t we do very well for a small country? (In fact, you’d swear we had competed the way we go on.)

10. Being happy for Team GB when they win things…

But also a *tiny* bit resentful.

11. Getting a little something in your eye whenever there’s a particularly good montage

Sports montages will be the death of us, tbh.

12. The titles and theme being stuck in your head for weeks on end

13. And feeling bereft when it’s all over

Bring on the next two weeks, tbh.
